Our ManicRank number is based on Victor Sperandeo's simple scoring system detailed in his book Trader Vic II - Principles of Professional Speculation page 235 with one addition.
In Victor's system each of the following is worth one point to give a score from -7 to +7
Stock made a higher high than yesterday
Open up on the day
Close up on the day
Close in the upper 50 percent of todays range
Close above todays open
Make a higher low than yesterday
Close above yesterdays high
Make a lower low than yesterday
Open down on the day
Close down on the day
Close in the lower 50 percent of todays range
Close below todays open
Make a lower high than yesterday
Close below yesterdays low
Quote from Victor: " When you get all seven items going in the same direction, the next day is 90 percent likely to trade above the high of that day, and 80 percent of the time will close above the close"
Our addition - ManicRank
We add one further point as follows:
If score is +7 and the stock gapped up at the open by 5% or more, we add one point to make +8.
If score is -7 and the stock gapped down at the open by 5% or more, we subtract one point to make -8.
Obviously, to ignore our addition just treat an 8 as a 7.
Our scans on each page show this rank for the last close and the preceeding 4 closes. i.e. D (last close) to D-4.
